We started AER because we love perfume. We've always loved perfume. But in a world full of commercial synthetics, we just couldn't find The Perfect Scent. We wanted a fragrance that was bold and unique, but also fairly traded, and made with natural ingredients. We couldn't find it. So we made our own...
Ted (on the left) is an internationally respected Designer and Creative Director. He designed the AER brand.
“Perfume has always been a passion of mine; I remember my father’s bottle of Aramis beside the bathroom sink, and I remember the smell of my mother spraying Patou before leaving the house, I remember my first bottle of perfume: Geoffrey Beane’s Grey Flannel.”
Ted worked as a designer at famous London branding agency The Partners, before becoming an Art Director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent and helping to launch several iconic Gucci and YSL scents. He is the former Head of Creative at furniture retailer Habitat, and former Art Director of cycling brand Brooks England. He is also the founder of the Tweed Run, an international vintage cycling event.
Ted misspent his youth in nightclubs and music venues where developed a healthy appreciation for underground culture. His aesthetic is a marriage of high and low, of glamourising the unexpected, of stark contrasts, of beauty with an edge.
AER Accord No. 1: Nagarmotha was originally developed as a private scent for Ted.
Head of Perfume
Stefan (on the right) is AER’s Head of Perfume and the nose behind AER's six perfumes.
Since he was a little boy, Stefan dreamt of being a perfume but his early career led him down a different path. He fostered his lifelong love of beauty first as a Hairdresser, then becoming one of Germany’s best-known Make-Up Artists for fashion, television and advertising. He was an educator at Germany’s largest and most famous make-up academies, then moved to New York City to become a hair and beauty consultant, partnering with brands like Shu Uemura and Chanel. He has 20 years of product experience in the cosmetics industry.
Throughout his life, Stefan kept his obsessed with scents and perfumes, and pursued perfumery in his spare time. He spent years developing his nose and his scent aesthetic, and when he returned to Berlin, the time was finally right to explore perfumes professionally. He studied natural perfuming in London, then attended the prestigious ISIPCA perfume programme in Paris. He enjoys challenging the traditions of perfuming, and layering the richness of botanicals with a radical new simplicity.
Stefan grew up in the Black Forest, and feels a tight bond with nature and a fascination with what the Earth provides. For him, natural perfuming seems an extension of this path.
